The 2023 Class of RDGA Foundation Scholarship Award Winners
With the completion of another school year for local High School students, The RDGA Foundation is pleased to announce its 2023 class of Foundation Scholarship Award winners – with each candidate receiving $2,500 towards tuition and expenses for their year ahead at their college of choice.
In addition to the annual Foundation Scholarship winners, the RDGA Foundation also announces the creation of a new annual scholarship award honoring the late Jack Fox, a past President and long-time volunteer for the RDGA. This new RDGA Foundation Jack Fox Memorial Scholarship will award $10,000 to the one most-qualified applicant of the year’s applicants.
Here, then, we present this year’s RDGA Foundation Scholarship Award recipients:
Jett Meldrum
RDGA Foundation Jack Fox Memorial Scholarship Recipient
John Michael “Jack” Fox passed a few years ago and he is missed every day. Jack is a past President of the Rochester District Golf Association and, for over twenty years, always supported the Rochester golf community, and Rochester community as a whole, in any way he could. Many generations of RDGA Tournament golfers will remember Jack as the personable first tee starter at countless RDGA events. A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Jack was truly a “Gentleman of Golf” – a distinction for which he was honored at the 2019 RDGA District Championship at Penfield Country Club by Michael Sorce.
The RDGA Foundation Jack Fox Memorial Scholarship is a $10,000 award for a high school senior who embodies the characteristics of Jack Fox that made the Rochester community a better place. Jack Fox blessed the lives of everyone who knew him and we are honored to announce this scholarship in his name. We are very proud of this year’s recipient and feel as though Jack would be as well.
Jett Meldrum and Jack Fox would have gotten along very well. Jett’s ability to light up the room with great energy is contagious. Jett’s personality and presence puts a smile on everyone’s face.
Jett graduated high school from Wayland-Cohocton and he is headed to Brockport to study Physical Education. His love for the game of golf is unmeasurable as he headed up starting the golf team at Brockport for this upcoming year! One of Jett’s best qualities is the willingness to meet new people on and off the course.
Jett’s dedication, work ethic, and personality will lead him down a great path in the world of teaching. There is no one more deserving than Jett Meldrum for the 2023 RDGA Foundation Jack Fox Memorial Scholarship!
Julia Zigrossi
2023 RDGA Foundation Scholarship Recipient
Julia Zigrossi has been a staple in our RDGA Junior Programs for years along with earning RDGA Junior Player of the year honors. She is one of the most talented and respected female golfers in our area. Julia has won multiple Section V and State Championship Titles and she will be bringing her talents to James Madison University to play golf and study accounting.
Along with Julia’s love for the game of golf, her dedication and success inside the classroom will suit her well as she continues her education. Julia has a very bright future ahead of her on and off the golf course!
Owen Corby
2023 RDGA Foundation Scholarship Recipient
Owen Corby is another RDGA Junior Player of the year and he has been another premier Junior Member in Rochester for a few years. Owen attended Pittsford Sutherland High School and plans on studying Business and playing golf at Le Moyne College.
Being a captain of both the golf and swim team, Owen has a natural ability to lead and mentor others. Owen plans on excelling in the classroom as well this fall as he learns to manage his time with academics and Division I Golf. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for Owen!
Olivia Zito
2023 RDGA Foundation Scholarship Recipient
Oliva Zito is another graduate of Our Lady of Mercy High School and she is attending High Point University in the fall to study Business Administration. Olivia has been very busy with her time throughout her high school career. She was able to juggle her time between leadership programs, golf, and volunteering at Rochester City School Districts.
Olivia dedicates herself to helping those in need and have a positive impact on people around her. High Point University is getting someone that dedicates time and effort to their surrounding community to make this world a better place. Olivia is prepared and excited for her upcoming chapters in life!
Ethan Provino
2023 RDGA Foundation Scholarship Recipient
Ethan Provino is another recognizeable name when it comes to Junior Golf in Rochester. Ethan graduated Mount Morris High School and is headed to play golf at Webber International University while also studying Sports Business Management.
Along with being a High Honor Roll student, Ethan managed to play four sports during his high school career. If that is not impressive enough, he also managed to win a Section V Title in each one of those sports as well (Basketball, Track, Soccer, & Golf). Ethan spends his spare time working at Old Hickory Golf club and he has goals to work in the golf industry one day like his father Marty Provino (Canandaigua Country Club). Ethan is excited for adventure ahead!
