A “Chamber of Commerce” day greeted the 64 golfers who met at Brook-Lea Country Club on Monday, May 12, for the most recent event on the 2014 Rochester District Golf Association tournament schedule – the Mid-Handicap Event No. 1.
The Mid Handicap format – featuring players 18 and over with an official USGA/RDGA handicap index of 10.0 or higher – included competition in Net (handicap) and Gross Score Divisions for both Men’s and Women’s flights.
Following play, the contestants were treated to a delicious buffet dinner prepared by the Brook-Lea kitchen staff, putting the final touches to a perfect day of golf on the classic Donald Ross-designed layout. The RDGA expresses thanks to the entire staff and membership of Brook-Lea for the outstanding service and hospitality provided throughout the event.
Winning the overall Net Division title in the Women’s flight was Karen Lejman, an RDGA member with the Executive Women’s Golf Association of Rochester. Lejman posted an adjusted score of 1-under-par 72 to win the title by two shots. Finishing in second place, with a score of 74, was Francesca Fuller from Stafford Country Club.
Rounding out the top-5 finishers in the Women’s Net Division were Wendy Wright (Victor Hills Golf Club) in third place with a 77; Mary Schlitzer (Genesee Valley Golf Club) in fourth place with a 79; and a three-way tie for fifth place at 81 between Debbie Harper (EWGA), Nancy Piazza (Webster Golf Club) and Lorra Borer (Salmon Creek Country Club).
In the Men’s flight of the Net Division, William Tripp of Mill Creek Country Club posted an adjusted score of 5-under-par 67 to win the title by two shots. Finishing in a two-way tie for second place at 3-under-par 69 were RDGA eClub member Steven Bauman and Scott Miano from Blue Heron Hills Golf Club. Tied for fourth place at 70 were John Habes (Durand Eastman Golf Club) and Ronald Hartung (Shadow Pines Golf Club).
Rounding out the top-10 finishers in the Men’s Net Division were Michael Schuth (Salmon Creek Country Club), Tom O’Connor (Riverton Golf Club), James Lanzillo (Durand Eastman) and Mark Little (Durand Eastman), who all tied for sixth place at 71; and Stephen Aaronson (Canandaigua Country Club), Jack Schuth (Salmon Creek) and Anthony Simonetti (Brook-Lea) who all finished in a tie for 10th place at 72.
In the Gross Division competitions, Wendy Wright claimed top honors in the Women’s flight with a gross score of 92, and in the Men’s flight, Scott Miano won a two-way playoff with Steven Bauman to win the title with a gross score of 81.
