Round 2 Complete in 2014 RDGA District Championship; Cut Made to Low 40 &Ties

Contestants waiting to tee off in Round 2 of the 2014 RDGA District Championship at Stafford Country Club warm up on the practice green on Thursday.

The second round of the 2014 RDGA District Championship John H. Ryan Memorial at Stafford Country Club was completed Thursday under ideal conditions, as sun and wind helped dry areas of the course that has been saturated by heavy downpours on Tuesday.

As the course dried out, Stafford member Jim Scorse caught fire, posting four birdies among 14 pars as he finished with a 4-under-par 68 in the second round, by far the best round of the day. Along with his first round 71, Scorse has a 5-under-par 139 total at the halfway point in the District Championship and a two-shot lead over Oak Hill’s Trevor Sluman.

Sluman, the nephew of pro tour golfer Jeff Sluman, added a 71 on Thursday to his first day score of 70 for a 3-under-par 141 total after two rounds. Locust Hill’s Zach Ottman posted a second consecutive 71 on Thursday and holds third place with a 2-under-par 141 total.

A total of 45 golfers survived the 36-hole cut at 10-over-par and advance to the final two rounds of play on Friday and Saturday.

Round three began at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, with the entire field teeing off on the first hole. Spectators are welcome to watch the action at Stafford, free of charge.

Also beginning on Friday at Stafford is the fifth annual RDGA Women’s District Championship Danielle E. Downey Memorial, with a 13-player field teeing off beginning at 10 a.m. The Women’s District Championship is a two-day, 36-hole, stroke play competition. Oak Hill’s Kristin Powers is the defending champion.

The RDGA also wishes to thank the entire membership and staff of Stafford Country Club for their hospitality and effort in helping to make this year’s RDGA District Championship a huge success.

Scores will continue to be updated live throughout the Championship on our website, RDGA.org. For complete results, go here.
