1st Round Complete for 2014 RDGA Women’s Championship Downey Memorial

Participants in the 2014 RDGA Women’s District Championship Danielle E. Downey Memorial wait to tee off on the first hole in Friday’s first round at Stafford Country Club.

The first round of the 2014 RDGA Women’s District Championship Danielle E. Downey Memorial got under way Friday morning under ideal conditions as the 13-player field competed over the first 18 holes of the 36-hole Championship at Stafford Country Club.

If the presence of Jenna Hoecker’s father – Brook-Lea head professional Jon Hoecker – working as her caddie for part of the round Friday had any calming affect on her game, it wasn’t readily apparent as she opened with a tumultuous 2-over-par 38 on the front nine, including three bogeys, three birdies and a double bogey.

On the back nine, however, Hoecker pulled her game together – after posting a birdie and two bogies on holes 10-12, she carded an eagle 3 on the par-5 13th hole, then proceeded to par out the rest of the way for a 1-over-par 73 in the first round to lead the field going into Saturday’s second and final round.

Two shots behind Hoecker is Ridgemont’s Jennifer Lee, with a score of 75, followed in third place by two golfers – defending champion Kristin Powers of Oak Hill and Sara Eichelberger of Brook-Lea – at 6-over-par 78.

The second and final round of the RDGA Women’s District Championship gets under way at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with the final group teeing off at 10:40 a.m. Live scoring throughout the day can be found on our website, as well as complete scoring here.
