Scorse Leads RDGA Mid-Am at Penfield Country Club After Round One

The first round of the 2014 RDGA Mid-Amateur Championship was completed on Friday at Penfield Country Club as 67 of the top local male amateurs, age 25 and over, teed off in the two-day, 36-hole stroke play championship.

Leading the way in the first round was Stafford Country Club’s Jim Scorse, who posted a stellar 4-under-par 67 that included four birdies and one bogey. Close behind, in second place, was Brandon Nunn from Oak Hill Country Club with a 3-under-par 68; followed by Sean Flint from Midvale Country Club in third place with a 1-over-par 72.

Three golfers are tied for fourth place at 2-over-par 73, including: Marty Coddington from Durand Eastman Golf Club; Blake Gianniny from the Country Club of Rochester; and Locust Hill Country Club’s Adam Condello, who won the Brook-Lea Amateur Invitational last weekend. The second and final round of the 2014 RDGA Mid-Amateur gets under way tomorrow afternoon at Penfield Country Club with tee times beginning at 1 p.m. and the final group teeing off at 2:50 p.m. There will be a short awards presentation following the conclusion of play. Spectators are welcome to attend, free of charge.

The Mid-Amateur champion will also receive an exemption into the 2015 RDGA District Championship Ryan Memorial at Midvale Country Club next June.
