On Saturday, May 20, the Rochester District Golf Association completed the third of three qualifying rounds for its premier annual amateur championship: the RDGA District Championship John H. Ryan Memorial, coming up on July 8 through 11, 2015, at Midvale Country Club.
A total of 191 amateurs from the Rochester area entered District Championship Qualifying for this year’s RDGA District Championship. Three area courses hosted one-day qualifiers this year, from which roughly one-third advanced to the Distirct Championship at Midvale.
- Wild Wood Country Club in Rush hosted the June 20 RDGA Championship Qualifier, with 57 players competing for 23 spots in the District Championship. Winning medalist honors was Steve Paladino of LeRoy, a member of Stafford Country Club, who posted a score of 2-under-par 69 to lead the field.
- On Wednesday, June 17, The Golf Club at Blue Heron Hills in Macedon hosted this year’s second District Championship Qualifier. With 63 players competing for 28 spots in the starting field for the District Championship, Adam Condello of Bloomfield, a member at Locust Hill Country Club, was the qualifying medalist, posting a score of 3-under-par 68.
- And on Saturday, June 13, Lake Shore Country Club in Greece hosted the first District Championship Qualifier, with 71 players competing for 32 spots in the District Championship. Two players – Peyton Steigerwald of Penfield, a member of Penfield Country Club; and Troy Allen of Brockport, a member of Caledonia Country Club – tied for medalist honors, both posting scores of even-par 71.
The 83 total players who earned spots in the District Championship in this year’s three District Championship Qualifiers will join up to 36 other players who were exempt from qualifying. The final field for the 2015 RDGA District Championship will be set on June 30, when registration for the Championship officially closes.
