Golfers enjoyed a late season round of golf on one of the Rochester area’s great Donald Ross designed courses in the RDGA Play Day at Brook-Lea Country Club on Monday, September 28.
One of the Rochester area’s oldest, most prestigious clubs – Brook-Lea Country Club in Gates – hosted the third and final Play Day event on the Rochester District Golf Association’s 2015 schedule on Monday, September 28.
A field of 101 golfers played the par-72 Brook-Lea layout, with winners recognized in gross and handicap divisions for women (playing from the red tees) and men (playing from gold and white tees).
Winning first place honors in the Women’s Net competition was Cheryl Ferguson of the Genesee Valley Golf Club, posting a handicap-adjusted score of 73, playing from the red tees. Salmon Creek’s Lorra Bohrer was runner-up with a score of 74. In the Women’s Gross score competition, Doreen Genga from Shadow Pines Golf Club took top honors with a raw score of 88.
In the Men’s White Tee Net score division, Richard Nasca from the RDGA eClub posted a handicap-adjusted score of 67 from the white tees to win first place. Ontario Country Club’s Tony Curatolo and Tom O’Brien from Webster Golf Club tied for second place with net scores of 68. And in the Men’s White Tee Gross score division, William Sollberger from Braemar Country Club had the day’s low score, a 75, followed by Kevin Lewis of Wild Wood Country Club with a 77.
In the Men’s Gold Tee Net division, Paul Turner from the RDGA eClub posted the low handicap score – a 66 – to take top honors, followed by Claren Kruppner from Livingston Country Club, who had a 67. In the Men’s Gold Tee Gross score competition, Genesee Golf Club’s Ray Mack took first place with a raw score of 76.
RDGA Play Days are a great way for golfers of all abilities – women and men – to play some of the area’s top private clubs at a very reasonable rate. For one all-inclusive fee of $75, RDGA Play Day participants enjoy a full round of golf, including cart, use of the driving range, lunch and prizes. Open to all RDGA members with an active GHIN handicap, Play Days are flighted based on tee selection – white and gold for men, red for women – with prizes available in each flight.
