Ever wonder what it would be like to play in a tournament at one of the Rochester area’s top private courses?
Ever wonder how you would react under tournament conditions?
Back for another year in 2016 is the popular RDGA Play Day series; events open to ALL amateur golfers – men and women, ages 18 and above – with an active USGA GHIN Handicap Index through the Rochester District Golf Association. If you’ve never played in an actual golf tournament before – or if you’ve always wanted to play some of the best courses in the area – then RDGA Play Days are for you!
RDGA Play Days are designed to be a fun, yet competitive day for golfers of all ability levels. Registration for Play Day events is $80 per person and includes use of the club’s practice facility; a cart and 18 holes of stroke play at 100-percent handicap; as well as prizes by flight and hors d’ouvres after the tournament. Contestants are welcome to request pairing in foursomes with friends who are also registered to play. Flights include Men’s White Tees, Men’s Gold Tees and Women; prizes will be awarded to approximately the top third of the field in each flight, in the form of Pro Shop gift certificates at the host club.
This year’s RDGA Play Day host courses are among the most historic – and storied – private clubs in Rochester:
- IRONDEQUOIT COUNTRY CLUB, Monday, May 2. Celebrating its centennial anniversary in 2016 and originally designed by famed Scottish architect Donald Ross, Irondequoit hosted the first RDGA Play Day of 2016. Congrats to our Net Score winners: Keith Osier of Genesee Valley, in the Men’s Blue Tee Division; Thomas Heidt, also of Genesee, in the Men’s White Tee Division; and Jan Ricci of Durand Eastman in the Women’s Division.
- PENFIELD COUNTRY CLUB, Monday, May 9. Part of the “second wave” of classic golf course designs to open in the Rochester area, Penfield was designed by noted local architect Pete Craig and first opened in 1959. Hosting our second Play Day of 2016, Penfield’s Net Score winners included: David Hildreth of Blue Heron Hills, in the Men’s White Tee Division; Craig MacBay, of the RDGA eClub, in the Men’s Gold Tee Division; and Betty Fedorjaka of Lake Shore in the Women’s Division.
- BROOK-LEA COUNTRY CLUB, Monday, September 26. This historic westside club was also designed by the great Donald Ross (one of six courses in the Rochester area) and first opened in 1926. Hosting our third Play Day of 2016, our Net Score winners at Brook-Lea included: Timothy Young Jr. of the RDGA eClub, in the Men’s White Tee Division; Tony Curatolo, from Ontario Country Club, in the Men’s Gold Tee Division; and Karen Berndt of Lake Shore in the Women’s Division.
- MIDVALE COUNTRY CLUB, Monday, October 3. Designed by Robert Trent Jones and host of the 2015 RDGA District Championships as well as the 2016 NCAA Division III National Men’s Golf Championships, Midvale Golf & Country Club is among the area’s oldest and most well-repected clubs. Hosting our fourth Play Day of 2016, the Net Score winners at Midvale included: David Warth from the RDGA eClub, in the Men’s White Tee Division; Greg Priola, another RDGA eClub member, in the Men’s Blue Tee Division; and Lilian Chang of the EWGA Rochester in the Women’s Division.
