On Sunday, August 13, Reservoir Creek Golf Club hosted the 2017 Interdistrict Junior Championship – a competition that features teams of Junior boys (ages 15 to 18) and Sub Junior boys (ages 12 to 14) from the Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo District Golf Associations.
In an 18-hole stroke play competition, the low five of six scores in the Junior competition and the low five of six scores in the Sub Junior competition counted towards each team’s total score. The low individual medalist in each of the Junior and Sub junior divisions were also recognized.
The Rochester District swept both the team and individual competitions this year, including the Junior Division team title with a 387 score. Syracuse finished four shots back in second place with a 391, while Buffalo finished third at 394. Individual scoring from the Rochester Junior team included: Tyler Buddendeck (72), Mike Minnehan (73), Jason Lohwater (79), Jude Cummings (81), Matt Coffey (82) and Gavin Simon (85).
In the Sub Junior Division, Rochester claimed the team title with a score of 222. Syracuse Sub Juniors finished second with a 233, followed by Buffalo in third place with a 244. Individual scoring from the Rochester Sub Junior team included: Philip Minnehan (73), Aiden Spampinato (74), Joey Maher (75), Mason Rivera (79), Jeremy Edmunds (81) and Ryan Connors (91).
The winning individual medalist from the Junior Division was Tyler Buddendeck from the Rochester District, who posted a one-over-par 72.
Philip Minnehan of the Rochester District was the individual medalist in the Sub Junior Division, posting a 2-over-par 73 for the event.
