The two-day, 36-hole 2017 RDGA Senior Championship concluded on Wednesday, August 30, with final round action at the Country Club of Rochester.

Winning the overall RDGA Senior Championship title (by posting the low 36-hole score between the Senior (55-59) and Super Senior (60-64) divisions), was Stuart Harris of Locust Hill Country Club. Harris put together rounds of 75-71 over the two-day championship for a 6-over-par total of 146 to win the 2017 RDGA Senior Championship by two shots over Paul Roland.

Roland, who was playing on his home course at the Country Club of Rochester, posted rounds of 75-73 for an 8-over-par 148 total to finish in second place, while Richard Luther of Ridgemont Country Club finished in third with scores of 80-73–153.

Earlier this season, in May, Harris also won the RDGA Senior Match Play Championship at Clifton Springs Country Club, marking the first time that a player has won both Senior titles in the same season. Previously, Mark Battle and Bob Chalanick have won both titles, but in different years.

Aside from the overall competition, which was contested between both the Senior and Super Senior Divisions (who played from the Black Tees at 6,500 yards), winners were also recognized in each of the four age flights in the Championship: Senior (ages 55 to 59); Super Senior (ages 60 to 64), Masters (ages 65 to 69), and Legends (ages 70-plus). Golfers in the Masters Flight played from the Blue Tees (6,160 yards); golfers in the Legends Flight played from the White Tees (5,780 yards).
  • Winning the 2017 Senior (55-59) Flight was Locust Hill’s Stuart Harris.
  • Winning the 2017 Super Senior (60-64) Flight was James Burns of Canandaigua Country Club.
  • Winning the 2017 Masters (65-69) Flight was Matthew Haefele of Stafford Country Club.
  • Winning the 2017 Legends (70-plus) Flight was William Robischon of Oak Hill Country Club.
In addition to the RDGA Senior Championship trophy, Harris – as well as Roland and Luther – also earned exemptions into the 2018 RDGA District Championship John H. Ryan Jr. Memorial, which will be hosted by Monroe Golf Club next July.

The RDGA wishes to thank the membership and staff of the Country Club of Rochester – especially PGA Head Professional Michael Urzetta and his staff – for their hospitality and assistance in hosting this RDGA Championship event.
