Scorse Wins 2019 Mid Am WEBSITE
Jim Scorse of Stafford celebrates his record eighth RDGA Mid Amateur Championship title on September 21 at Mendon Golf Club.

On Saturday, September 21, Jim Scorse captured his record eighth RDGA Mid Amateur Championship, winning the title at Mendon Golf Club.

Following his 1-under-par 70 in Round 1, Scorse, a member at Stafford Country Club, posted an impressive 4-under-par 67 in Saturday’s second round to finish with a 36-hole total of 5-under 137 – five shots ahead of his nearest competitor, Michael Colosi of LeRoy Country Club. Scorse recorded four birdies and no bogies – including three over the last 5 holes – in his second round on Saturday.

Colosi finished with scores of 72-70 for an even-par 172 total, followed by Locust Hill’s Kyle Downey, who finished in third place with scores of 71-72–143. Oak Hill’s Zach Fuller, who began the second round in a tie for first with Scorse at 70, finished with a 74 and a 144 total to finish in fourth place overall.

With the victory, Scorse picked up 150 points towards the 2019 RDGA Player of the Year Award point standings and now trails Mendon Golf Club’s Chris Blyth by just 105 points. Earlier this summer, Scorse also won the Brook-Lea Amateur Invitation, another one of the area’s major amateur championships. The RDGA Player of the Year award will be presented at the RDGA Fall Event on October 9.

Each of the top three finishers also earned exemptions into the 2020 RDGA District Championship John H. Ryan Jr. Memorial at Oak Hill Country Club.
One of the RDGA‘s annual major championships, the District Mid Amateur is open to top male amateurs age 25 or above.
