With the conclusion of the 2019 Rochester District Golf Association tournament season, the RDGA wishes to congratulate this year’s major championship winners:
RDGA Men’s District Championship John H. Ryan Jr. Memorial
- YARIK MERKULOV (Ridgemont CC). In the final round of the 2019 RDGA District Championship John H. Ryan Jr. Memorial, hosted by Penfield Country Club, Merkulov completed an impressive wire-to-wire victory, winning his first RDGA District Championship title by four shots – including scores of 66 and 67 in the first and third rounds of the four-day, 72-hole competition. Merkulov finished with a round of 72 for a 6-under-par 278 total for the Championship. Last year’s Champion, Chris Blyth of Mendon Golf Club, finished runner-up.

RDGA Women’s Championship Danielle E. Downey Memorial
- MIKAH McDONNELL (Locust Hill CC). Winning her first RDGA Women’s Championship title in 2019 was Mikah McDonnell from Locust Hill Country Club. McDonnell began the round two shots behind Locust Hill’s Kristen Bromley but made up the difference in the final round with a 1-over-par 73 at Stafford Country Club to finish with a 9-over-par 153. Bromley finished with scores of 78-79–157.

RDGA Match Play Championship
- BEN KIRCHER (Monroe GC). In the 2019 Men’s Match Play Championship Final at Mill Creek Golf Club, Ben Kircher and Tom Linehan waged a back-and-forth battle with the match all square through the 11th hole – when Kircher, a past Rochester Williamson Cup player, won three holes in a row to take a 3-up lead with 4 to play. The two parred the next two holes and Kircher claimed a 3-and-2 victory for his first career local amateur title.

RDGA Senior Match Play Championship
- JIM BURNS (Canandaigua CC). In the 2019 Senior Match Play Championship Finals vs. Ron Plummer, Jim Burns was looking to win his first RDGA title since the 2017 RDGA Super Senior flight championship. Plummer took a 1-up lead on three different occasions – only to fall back to all square each time as Burns won the next hole. All square at No. 12, Burns then won the next two holes to take the lead for good, eventually winning the match and title by a 1-up decision at Mill Creek Golf Club.

RDGA Mid Amateur Championship
- JIM SCORSE (Stafford CC). Jim Scorse captured his eighth RDGA Mid Amateur Championship in 2019, winning the title at Mendon Golf Club. Following his 1-under-par 70 in Round 1, Scorse posted an impressive 4-under-par 67 in Saturday’s second round to finish with a 36-hole total of 5-under 137 – five shots ahead of his nearest competitor, Michael Colosi of LeRoy Country Club.

RDGA Senior Championship
- OVERALL: KEVIN WEBB (Mendon GC)
- Senior (ages 55 to 59): Stuart Harris (Oak Hill CC)
- Super Senior (ages 60-64): Kevin Webb (Mendon GC)
- Masters (ages 65-69): Larry Arliss (Wayne Hills CC)
- Legends (ages 70-plus): Cosmo Contrino (Wild Wood CC)
Winning the overall RDGA Senior Championship title at Wayne Hills Country Club (by posting the low 36-hole score between the Senior (55-59) and Super Senior (60-64) divisions), was Super Senior Kevin Webb of Mendon Golf Club. Webb outlasted Senior Flight winner and past RDGA Senior Champion Stuart Harris to win the 2019 RDGA Senior Championship.

The three-day Junior, Sub-Junior and Pee Wee Championships at the Golf Club at Blue Heron Hills featured six sepatate competitions – including individual championships for Junior (ages 15 to 18), Sub-Junior (12 to 14) and Pee Wee (7 to 11) divisions for both boys and girls. This year’s competitions resulted in first-time winners for all six titles – Minnehan in the Boys Junior, Ford in the Girls Junior, Cellura in the Girls Sub Junior, Domajnko in the Boys Pee Wee, Zigrossi in the Girls Pee Wee and Finkin the Boys Sub Junior.
