The Rochester District Golf Association opened its 2015 District Championship John H. Ryan Memorial at the Midvale Country Club on Wednesday, July 8, with the 115-player field teeing off on the historic Robert Trent Jones-designed layout.
Playing in the morning session, Webster Golf Club’s Shane Dobesh got out to an early lead on Wednesday with a 4-under-par round of 68. Dobesh, who won the 2015 RDGA Match Play Championship at Ontario Country Club in May, posted six birdies and two bogeys in the first round. Defending RDGA Champion Trevor Sluman from Oak Hill Country Club followed close behind, with a 3-under-par 69 in Round 1.
Four-time RDGA District Champion Jim Scorse of Stafford Country Club was in a group of four players tied for fourth place at 71; 2015 Country Club of Rochester Invitational winner Adam Condello from Locust Hill was tied for seventh place with an even-par 72.
Round 2 begins Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m., followed by afternoon rounds beginning at 12:30 p.m. First round leader Shane Dobesh tees of at 1:50 p.m. on Thursday. Following the completion of Round 2, the field will be cut to the low 40 players plus ties for the final two rounds on Friday and Saturday.
