The 2015 RDGA Women’s Championship concluded on Saturday, July 11 at Midvale Country Club as Sara Eichelberger of Brook-Lea Country Club became the first two-time winner of the Danielle E. Downey Memorial. Eichelberger posted the low score of the 36-hole Championship – a 78 – in the final round to win the title with an 8-over-par 158 total.

General Manager Rich Marr, PGA head professional Mike Kiel, head greens superintendent Rick Christie and all the staff and members of Midvale Country Club proved to be exceptional hosts throughout the entire Championship week – the RDGA thanks them all for their outstanding hospitality.

Throughout the two-day Championship, Eichelberger, defending champion Jenna Hoecker (also of Brook-Lea), and Kristin Powers of Oak Hill Country Club battled each other for the lead, playing together for both days of the Championship. Eichelberger held a precarious two-shot advantage over Hoecker going to the 17th hole of the final round, but Hoecker missed the fairway and ended up with a double bogey as Eichelberger took a four shot lead with one hole to play.

“It’s always fun playing with these girls,” Eichelberger said. “It’s always very competitive, so it’s always exciting. It makes you be on your ‘A’ game just playing with them.”

Eichelberger, who also won the RDGA Women’s Championship in 2012, will definitely be back to defend her title in 2016, when she will attempt to win a third Danielle Downey Memorial title.

“This is a great, great tournament,” she added. “They are really making this a great tournament for us girls. More of us participate as the years go on, so hopefulley we’ll have an even bigger field next year.”
