A beautiful day greeted golfers for the Rochester District Golf Association’s first ever women-only tournament, hosted by Ridgemont Country Club on Friday, September 19 – the inaugural RDGA Women’s Open. In a celebration of women’s golf in Rochester, 85 golfers competed for the title in the 18-hole medal play competition.
Winning the overall low gross score title was Maggie Kril of Braemar Country Club with an 8-over-par 80 for the tournament. Joy Florczak of Durand Eastman Golf Club finished in second place overall with an 82, followed by Cindy Glitzer of Chili Country Club and Margaret Somerset of Canandaigua Country Club who both shot 84 to tie for third place.
In the net score competition, Doreen Genga of Shadow Pines Golf Club won first place with a handicap-adjusted score of 72. Genga won a tiebreaker with two Ridgemont members – Linda Heidke and Virginia Reinholtz – who both posted net scores of 72 to finish in a tie for second place. Kril finished in fourth place with a net score of 73.
Also recognized were the winners in each of the six handicapped flights in the competition. In Flight 1, Florczak was the winner with a net score of 76; in Flight 2, Tina Annucci of Ridgemont won with a net score of 76; in Flight 3, Heidke won with a net score of 72; Karen Lejman of the EWGA won Flight 4 with a score of 75; Rosalie Pusateri of Wild Wood Country Club won Flight 5 with a score of 76; and Ridgemont’s Reinholtz won Flight 6 with a score of 72.

Following the tournament, participants were treated to a wonderful dinner in the Ridgemont dining room, where tournament trophies and prizes were handed out – featuring gift certificates to lorisgolfshop.com.
