With Thursday’s rain and lightning shortening the 2017 RDGA District Championship John H. Ryan Memorial from four rounds and 72 holes to three rounds and 54 holes, Friday’s completed second round at Locust Hill Country Club was both “cut” day and “moving” day, as players fought for position heading into Saturday’s third and final round.

Jeff March, the Irondequoit Country Club member who claimed a share of the first round lead with a 1-under-par 71 on Wednesday, posted a steady, even-par 72 on Friday that included three birdies and three bogeys to move into sole possession of first place after 36 holes with a 1-under-par 143 total.
Jim Scorse, the four-time RDGA District Championship winner from Stafford Country Club made the most of “moving” day on Friday, posting the low round of the tournament so far, a 2-under-par 70. With his opening round of 74, Scorse heads into the final round at even-par 144, one shot behind March. |
On Saturday, Scorse will be attempting to claim victory on the same course where he captured his first RDGA District Championship title, in 2001.
Adam Condello leads the record contingent of 18 Locust Hill members who entered the tournament, carding an even-par 72 on Friday for a 36-hole total of 1-over-par 145 to rest in a tie for third place, two shots behind the lead. Also in third place is Jason Schantz of Oak Hill, who posted a 72 on Friday.
Other Locust Hill members who made the 36-hole cut on Friday include: Kyle Downey (tie for 7th, 76-71–147), Zach Ottman (T12, 74-75–149), Nick Gollaher (T23, 74,78–152), Jason Lohwater (T31, 76-77–153), Pat Keegan (T40, 75-80–155) and Stuart Harris (T40, 80-75–155).
With the 36-hole cut being made to the low 40 players, plus ties, a total of 45 players made the cut to advance to the final round on Saturday.
Round 3 of the 2017 RDGA District Championship tees off on Saturday morning, with start times beginning at 7:30 am on Hole No. 1. The final group, including tournament leader Jeff March, is set to tee off at 9:50 am.
