Old Hickory Hosts RDGA 2-Person Best Ball

The team of Jered Maloney, left, playing on his home course, at Old Hickory, and Ben
Cratsley, right, from Centerpointe Country Club, took home top honors in the 2015RDGA Two Person Four Ball at Old Hickory Golf Club on May 9.

Old Hickory Golf Club in Livonia was the setting for the third event on the 2015 Rochester District Golf Association tournament schedule – the Two Person Four Ball (Best Ball) – on Saturday, May 9.

With a field of 29 two-player teams, the four ball format featured three handicapped flights for men, along with Net and Gross score flights for women. Teams competed in one of the more popular RDGA tournament formats of the year, in which players played every shot with their own ball, with only the best score between teammates counting towards the team score on each hole.

In addition to competing for prizes in each flight, the first place team among all the men’s flights earned exemptions into the RDGA District Championship John H. Ryan Memorial in July.

Players were treated to a course in great condition and, following play, enjoyed a steak dinner on the large outdoor grill – all thanks to the fine hospitality of Old Hickory’s staff.

Winning first place overall – and the exemptions into the District Championship – was the team of Jered Maloney, playing on his home course at Old Hickory, and Ben Cratsley, from Centerpointe Country Club, with a combined score of 5-under-par 67.

In the Women’s Flight, Gross Score competition, Susanne Yarnall from Centerpointe and Patricia O’Hara teamed up to post a score of 78 to win medalist honors. In the Women’s Flight, Net Score competition, the team of Elizabeth Thorley, from Mendon Golf Club, and Lisa Mulvaney, from Locust Hill Country Club, won top honors with a combined score of 61.

In the Men’s Flight 1, there was a tie for first place between two teams with scores of 68: Jacob Reimer and Chris Sorci, both from the RDGA eClub, and the team of Matthew Morabito and William McDermott, both from Geneva Country Club. There was a four-way tie for second place in Flight 1 between the teams of: Dan Bannister and Ken Starkweather, Ken Seibold and Jim Scorse, Steve Hakes and Andy Hakes, and Tim Patchett and Jordan Wilson.

Winning the Men’s Flight 2 – along with their overall title and exemptions into the RDGA District Championship – was the team of Maloney and Cratsley and their score of 67. There was a two-way tie for second place in Flight 2, between the teams of Mark Walsh and Robert Viets, and Ken Chastain and Doug Ricketts.

In the Men’s White Tee Flight, the team of Chuck Kirchhoff and Eric Smith, both from FarView Golf Course, posted a 76 to claim first place. Finishing in second place in the Flight was the team of Eric Hardy and Ron Thomas with a score of 80, followed in third place by the team of Jeff Holley and Jordan Holley with a score of 82.
