Those players who “passed the test” of competiton advanced to the 88th RDGA District Championship John H. Ryan Memorial at Monroe Golf Club on July 25 to 28.
A combined total of 135 golfers, competing in two separate District Championship Qualifiers, began the “Road to Monroe” last month, each with dreams of reaching the 2018 RDGA District Championship John H. Ryan Jr. Memorial.
The RDGA held the first of two District Championship Qualifying Events at Caledonia Country Club on June 20, sending approximately half of the top finishers to the District Championship.
A starting field of 78 golfers began the day at Caledonia – and by the end of the day, 43 had qualified for the Championship. Christian Chapman of Cobblestone Creek Country Club – who had earlier won this year’s Country Club of Rochester Invitational – was the Qualifying Medalist with a score of 3-under-par 69, to lead the field.

The RDGA held the second of two 2018 District Championship Qualifying Events at Lakeside Country Club on June 23, also sending approximately one half of the top finishers to the District Championship.
In a starting field of 57, the top 29 players qualified for the District Championship. The Qualifying Medalist at Lakeside, with a score of 3-over-par 75, was Jim Burns of Canandaigua Country Club. Oak Hill’s Clarke MacArthur finished second at 76.

The 72 players who advanced through each of the two qualifiers will join those players exempt from qualifying to fill the starting field of approximately 120 in the 2018 RDGA District Championship John H. Ryan Jr. Memorial, which will be held at Monroe Golf Club on July 25-28. CLICK HERE for details about this year’s Championship.
