Golfers in the Junior Boys Division tee off in the RDGA Junior Classic event at Bristol Harbour Golf Club & Resort on Wednesday, June 29.
Now that summer is here and schools are out, the local junior golf season is in full swing. And, with junior golf in full swing, that also means that RDGA junior members are hitting the local links – and getting ready for the 2016 RDGA Junior Championships later this summer at Clifton Springs Country Club.
Leading up to this summer’s RDGA Junior, Sub-Junior and PeeWee Championships will be the annual RDGA junior tournament schedule, beginning with two RDGA Junior Classic events. The first Junior Classic – for boys and girls, ages 12-14 (Sub Junior) and 15 to 17 (Junior) – was hosted by Bristol Harbour Golf Club on Wednesday, June 29, followed by the second, at LeRoy Country Club on Wednesday, July 6. Registration for these events is closed.
Next on the junior tournament schedule are two Pee Wee Classic events – for boys and girls ages 7 to 11 – at Buttonwood Golf Course in Spencerport on July 8 and July 22. A great way for young juniors to get their start in tournament golf, the Pee Wee events both feature a brief instructional clinic, followed by nine holes of golf. Registration for these events is closed.
The road to the 2016 RDGA Junior Championships next visited ParkView Fairways in Victor on July 19, where the Boys Sub-Junior and Junior Championship Qualifiers were held. With the exception of five pre-qualified Junior Boys, any Sub-Junior or Junior boy golfer hoping to play in the District Championships first had to play in the Qualifier at ParkView Fairways. Those players who qualified were automatically entered into the Boys Junior and Boys Sub Junior Championships. Registration for these events is closed.
Following the qualifiers, the road to the 2016 Junior Championships leads to Clifton Springs Country Club on August 2 through 4, when the top-qualifying boys and girls will compete for the District Junior, Sub-Junior and Pee Wee titles. The Junior Boys and Sub Junior Boys will square off in rounds of single-elimination match play to decide the title, while Junior and Sub Junior Girls will compete in stroke play each day of the Championship. The Pee Wee competition will also feature 18 holes of stroke play, with nine holes each on August 3 and 4. Registration for this event is closed.
