2022 Women’s Senior Player of the Year

The 2022 RDGA Women’s Senior Player of the Year: Deb Wood

Deb Wood

The Rochester District Golf Association began its Women’s Senior Player of the Year Award in 2020 as a way to honor the year’s top female players – ages 50 and above – based on points earned from local, regional and national women’s senior tournaments throughout the season.

Winning the 2022 RDGA Women’s Senior Player of the Year Award was Deb Wood of Durand Eastman Golf Club.

In the third annual race for the RDGA Women’s Senior Player of the Year, Wood came away with her first RDGA Women’s Senior Player of the Year Award in her impressive amateur career – finishing ahead of her closest rival, Ellen Weeks of Clifton Springs CC.

Like the RDGA Women’s POTY race, Wood battled Weeks from the start of the year – going well into the home stretch of the 2022 RDGA tournament season. But what set Deb apart from Ellen in the Senior POTY race was her performance in 2 events – the Women’s RDGA District Championship, where she finished as a Quarterfinalist, and in the Women’s GA of WNY Championship. Where she finished in a tie for 9th place.

By the end of the season, Deb held a 95 point margin over Ellen – 675 to 580 – not only winning the 2022 RDGA Women’s Senior POTY Award – but also becoming the first player to win both the Senior AND Women’s POTY in the SAME season.
