The 2023 RDGA Super Senior Player of the Year: Jim Burns
The newest entry among the annual Rochester District Golf Association Player of the Year Awards began earlier this year, with the creation of the RDGA Super Senior Player of the Year Award.
Designed to recognize and celebrate consistent excellence in the game of golf over the course of a single season, the RDGA Super Senior Player of the Year will be recognized annually, open to all male golfers, ages 65 and above, based on gross score results only. To be considered for the RDGA Super Senior Player of the Year award, golfers must play a minimum of 5 events on the published Points schedule with an additional requirement that 3 of those events must be RDGA events.
The inaugural race for the RDGA Men’s Super Senior Player of the Year Award also turned out to be the tightest and most hotly contested RDGA Player of the Year race in 2023. Capturing the inaugural Super Senior Player of the Year honors was Jim Burns of Canandaigua Country Club.
Burns came out on top of an astonishingly close battle for the title – by just 27.5 points ahead of last year’s Men’s Senior Player of the Year, Mark Battle of Ravenwood. Burns counted runner-up finishes in two New York State events – the NYS Men’s Super Senior Amateur and the NYS Men’s Super Senior Men’s Four Ball Championships – in collecting the most points in this category, 622.5, compared to 595 for Battle.
