On Saturday, May 3, 56 two-person teams braved the changeable Spring elements to compete in the Rochester District Golf Association’s first event of the 2014 season: the Two Person Scramble, hosted by Mendon Golf Club. Thanks to all of the staff and membership of Mendon GC for a great event and a great start to the 2014 season.
With the field of competitors battling for top honors in five handicap flights for men – along with Gross and Net Divisions for women – golfers were also competing to earn exemptions to the RDGA Championship John H. Ryan Memorial in July.
Four teams finished in a tie for first place in the overall standings, each posting combined scores of 10-under-par 61. The winning teams included: Ken Seibold (Brookwoods Country Club) and Scott Harris Jr. (Caledonia Country Club); Andrew Dailey (Salmon Creek Country Club) and Ron Plummer (Ridgemont Country Club); Jacob Reimer (RDGA eClub) and Kevin Thornton (Genesee Valley Golf Club); and Dan Ricci (Genesee Valley Golf Club) and Jim Scorse (Stafford Country Club). Members of each team are now exempt from qualifying for the RDGA Championship John H. Ryan Jr.Memorial, to be hosted by Stafford Country Club on July 16 through 19.
In the Women’s Divisions, the winning team in the Gross score division included Cindy Glitzer (Chili Country Club) and Maggie Kril (Braemar Country Club). Glitzer and Kril combined for a 2-over-par 73 total, which also ranked 35th in the overall standings. In second place in the Gross Division was the team of Susanne Yarnall and Joan Leroy with an 8-over-par 79 total.
In the Women’s Net score division, Yarnall and Leroy turned the tables on the team of Glitzer and Kril, finishing in first place with an adjusted score of 9-under-par 62. Glitzer and Kril finished with a 4-under-par 67.
In the Flighted Divisions for men, top honors for Flight I were shared by the teams of Reimer and Thornton, and Ricci and Scorse, at 10-under-par 61. Troy Allen (Brockport Country Club) and Shane Gleason (Brookwoods Country Club) finished in third place at 9-under-par 62.
In Flight II, the teams of Seibold and Harris Jr., and Dailey and Plummer tied for first place at 10-under-par 61. The team of Steve and Andy Hakes (both RDGA eClub) finished in third place at 6-under-par 65.
In Flight III, there was a three-way tie for first place at 4-under-par 76, including the teams of Justin Hept (Cobblestone Country Club) and Matthew Bennage (Irondequoit Country Club); Matt Carey (RDGA eClub) and Dan Carey (Bristol Harbour Golf Club); and Stuart Harris (Locust Hill Country Club) and John Quethera (Penfield Country Club).
In Flight IV, the team of Gerald Shaughnessy (LeRoy Country Club) and Joe Bogue ran away with top honors with a 6-under-par 65. Finishing in second place was the team of Steve Stathopoulos and Lou DiRisio (both from Cobblestone Creek Country Club), with a 3-under-par 68, followed by the team of Kevin Webb (Clifton Springs Country Club) and Roger Paddock (Lakeside Country Club) with a score of 1-under-par 70.
In Flight V, the team of Rich Heater (Monroe Golf Club) and Bernie Quinn won first place with a score of 1-under-par 70. Finishing in second, with a 5-over-par 76, was the team of Patrick Krenzer and Ken Alexander (both from Lima Country Club), followed by the third-place team of Tom Miner and Keith Garceau (both from Blue Heron Hills Golf Club), who posted a score of 6-over-par 77.

The next event on the 2014 RDGA tournament schedule is the Mid Handicap Event No. 1 at Brook-Lea Country Club on Monday, May 12, followed by the Two Person Four Ball (Best Ball) at Wayne Hills Country Club on Sunday, May 18.
