Danielle Downey.
Each year, the Rochester District Golf Association provides many opportunities for local women golfers of all abilities to participate in tournaments on our schedule – including the annual RDGA Women’s Championship, which is open to the area’s best amateurs.
Now in its sixth year, the RDGA Women’s Championship also celebrates the life of Spencerport native and LPGA Tour golfer Danielle Downey, who was killed in an auto accident in early 2014. Since last year, the RDGA has recognized Downey’s contributions to local women’s golf by naming the Women’s Championship the Danielle E. Downey Memorial in her honor.
The RDGA Women’s Championship Danielle E. Downey Memorial – scheduled for July 10 and 11 and hosted by historic Midvale Country Club in Penfield – is open to local women amateurs who are members of RDGA-member clubs and have USGA Handicaps of 15 and under are invited to enter this prestigious championship.
The first round of the 2015 RDGA Women’s Championship begins on Friday, featuring a field of 14 golfers, including defending champion Jenna Hoecker of Brook-Lea Country Club. Tee times begin at 10:10 a.m. and continue to 10:50 a.m. with the featured pairing of the past three Women’s Championship winners, Kristin Powers, Sara Eichelberger and Hoecker.
