The format for the 2016 Women’s Open included overall competition in gross score and net score divisions, as well as five separate flights based on handicaps – and featuring two tee-length options to enhance pace of play.
Winning the overall scratch Women’s Open title for 2016 was Deb Wood from Hickory Ridge Golf & Country Club, who posted a score of 3-over-par 76.
Wood finished three shots ahead of defending Women’s Open Gross Score Champion Jenna Hoecker, who posted a 79 on her home course.
Winning the overall net Women’s Open title this year was was EWGA/RDGA member Marie Kamp with a handicap-adjusted score of 61.

Kamp finished one shot ahead of fellow EWGA/RDGA member Diane Desmarais, who had a 62. Desmarais was the Green Tee Flight winner.

Wood and Kamp were each presented with the Women’s Open championship trophies – which can be displayed at their home clubs for the next year – as well as comemmorative winner’s plaques, and Savvy Girl Golf’s Signature Golf Purses. Each player also earned points towards the 2016 RDGA Women’s Player of the Year award, to be announced at the RDGA Fall Meeting on October 11. A special thank you to Diane McCue, founder of Savvy Girl Golf, for providing Savvy Girl Golf Signature Golf Purses for the champions! The only event of its kind in Rochester, this year’s field included 73 women representing many of the Rochester area’s local private, semi-private and public golf clubs and organizations. |
Also recognized following the conclusion of the 2016 RDGA Women’s Open were the five individual flight winners, based on handicap and tee length, including:
- Flight 1: Margaret Somerset
- Flight 2: Mary Schlitzer (winner of a USGA tiebreaker with Cindy Abruzzese)
- Flight 3: Karen Lejman
- Flight 4: Judy Blake
- Green Tee Flight: Diane Desmarais
