On Friday, August 19, Geneva Country Club hosted the 2016 Interdistrict Junior Championship – a competition that features teams of Junior boys (ages 15 to 17) and Sub Junior boys (ages 12 to 14) from the Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo District Golf Associations.
In an 18-hole stroke play competition, the low five of six scores in the Junior competition and the low three of five scores in the Sub Junior competition counted towards each team’s total score. The low individual medalist in each of the Junior and Sub junior divisions were also recognized.
The Rochester District claimed the 2016 Junior Division team title with a 389 score. Syracuse finished two shots back in second place with a 391, while Buffalo finished third at 408. Individual scoring from the Rochester Junior team included: Jude Cummings (71), Tyler McDonnell (77), Mike Minnehan (84), Zach Pettrone (90), Frederic Shi (78) and AlexZurat (79).
In the Sub Junior Division, Buffalo claimed the team title with a score of 239. Syracuse Sub Juniors finished second with a 241, followed by Rochester in third place with a 265. The winning Buffalo team included scoring from: Ryan Edholm (91), Jaxson Hummell (81), Matthew Jackson (78), William Sherrer (99), Benjamin Spitz (83) and IanWagner (80).
The winning individual medalist from the Junior Division was Jude Cummings from the Rochester District, who posted an even par 71.
Johnny Gruninger of the Syracuse District was the individual medalist in the Sub Junior Division, posting a 4-over-par 75 for the event.
