Stafford Country Club’s Jim Scorse finished the 2015 RDGA Mid Amateur Championship where he began it – as the reigning champion.
On Saturday, August 15, Scorse added another 3-under-par 69 to his first round 69 for a 6-under-par 138 total, winning the Championship on a tough Deerfield Golf & Country Club layout.
“I played pretty solid – it was fun,” said Scorse, who has now won the RDGA’s 25-and-over championship six times in the nine-year history of the event.
Oak Hill Country Club’s Jim Mason also posted back-to-back scores – two consecutive rounds of 72 – to finish six shots behind Scorse as the tournament runner-up.
“I can’t play any better,” said Mason. “Jim had a great tournament. But it felt great being in contention again.”
Scorse toured the par-72 North-South championship coiurse at Deerfield with six birdies and two bogies – the same as he did in Friday’s first round – on his way to the victory.
Finishing in a tie for third place was Rob Smith of Mendon Golf Club and Kevin Thornton of Ridgemont Country Club. Smith posted scores of 79-71 for a 150 total; Thornton shot 73-77 for a 150 total. Both players – along with Scorse and Mason – earned exemptions into the 2016 RDGA District Championship John H. Ryan Memorial for finishing in the top-3 in the Mid Amateur.
The RDGA wishes to thank Deerfield Golf & Country Club, owners Paul and Claudia Moriarty and their staff for their hospitality in hosting this District Championship event.
