Weather conditions varied greatly during Round 2 of the 86th RDGA District Championship John H. Ryan Memorial at Ridgemont Country Club on Thursday, July 14 – ranging from hot and humid, to windy and rainy – which contributed to several high scores.
The conditions seemingly had little impact, however, on two-time defending champion Trevor Sluman, who surged into the lead Thursday after posting a 4-under-par 68 to take a four shot lead at the halfway mark of the Championship.

Sluman came out of the gate fast in Round 2, carding three birdies in his first nine holes of the day, adding three more birdies along with two bogeys on his second nine of the day. In second place after two rounds was Brook-Lea’s Evan Gaesser – the 2016 Section V High School champion – who posted his second consecutive score of even-par 72. First-round leader Jack Gianniny from the Country Club of Rochester fell to third after a score of 79 on Thursday for a two-day total of 4-over-par 148.
Following the completion of Round 2, the starting field of 113 was cut to the low 40 players and ties. It’s been a busy week for Sluman – qualifying for the U.S Amateur in a 36-hole local qualifier on Monday and on Thursday, taking a 4-shot lead after two rounds of the District Championship.
Sluman, Gaesser and Gianniny formed the final group of the day in Friday’s third round.
