Defending RDGA District Champion Trevor Sluman tees off on the sixth hole at Midvale Country Club.
The 2015 RDGA District Championship John H. Ryan Memorial continued at historic Midvale Country Club in Penfield on Thursday, July 9, with the 115-player field competing in Round 2, looking to make the 36-hole cut to the top 40 players and ties by day’s end.
Cool, wet conditions prevailed throughout the day, making the par-72, 6,632-yard Robert Trent Jones layout play much longer than usual and putting a premium on low scores.
Jim Scorse of Stafford Country Club displayed the veteran poise that helped him win four RDGA Championship titles on Tuesday, posting an even-par 72 to tie for the low round of the day and take a one-shot lead at the halfway point of the Championship at one-under-par 143. Scorse, who began the second round tied for fourth place, recorded four bogies and two birdies through the first 12 holes, then finished strong with an eagle 3 on the par-5 17th hole.
Defending champion Trevor Sluman of Oak Hill Country Club posted a score of 75 on Thursday, including two birdies and five bogies. Beginning the day in second place, Sluman remains there going into Friday’s third round at even-par 144.
First round leader Shane Dobesh of Webster Golf Club, who won the RDGA Match Play Championship in May, was solid throughout much of the second round, posting par on all but four holes, where he carded two double bogies and two bogies. Dobesh finished the day with a 6-over-par 78 and enters Friday’s third round in third place at 2-over-par 146.
Following the cut made at the end of Thursday’s second round, the remaining 43-player field will begin Round 3 at Midvale on Friday morning, beginning at 7:30 on hole No. 1. Scorse tees off in the final group with Dobesh and Sluman at 9:50 a.m. For a complete list of third round tee times, visit the tournament pairings page HERE.
