HISTORY
Established in 2017 by Pat Bailey, the Caddie & Leadership Academy provides young people the opportunity to learn and grow through the game of golf. Along with learning how to caddie, the program assists in developing leadership skills and instills the value of strong work ethic and perseverance.
ELIGIBILITY
The Caddie & Leadership Academy is open to current eighth and ninth grade students who have at least a 3.0 GPA. Applicants must be of financial need and demonstrate character, integrity, responsibility, and effort.
COMMITMENT
The program runs from May – August beginning with seven formal caddie training sessions both in a classroom and on the course. Beginning in June, caddies will have the following requirements:
- Attend weekly leadership meetings every Monday from 5:00PM – 6:00PM
- Be available to caddie on Saturdays and Sundays
- Complete a minimum of three “loops” (caddie 18 holes) per week at your assigned course (Oak Hill Country Club or the Country Club of Rochester)
- Attend two, 3-hour service days
Caddies will receive a $400 educational grant each month if they complete the criteria listed above. While golfers do not pay the club “loop fee,” caddies can receive performance-based pay (tips.)
EVANS SCHOLARSHIP
Graduates of the program who continue caddying throughout their high school career are prepared to apply for the Evans Scholarship, a full tuition and housing college scholarship for high-achieving caddies with limited financial means. Caddies with a strong caddie record, excellent academics, demonstrated financial need and outstanding character are encouraged to apply at the beginning of their senior year.
To date, the Caddie & Leadership Academy has produced four Evans Scholars.
