Wild Wood Country Club – the scenic championship layout located just minutes south of Rochester in Rush – has been added to the 2015 Rochester District Golf Association schedule as host of the third site for this year’s RDGA District Championship Qualifier, on Saturday, June 20.
Wild Wood joins historic Lake Shore Country Club in Greece, on Rochester’s west side, and the elegant Blue Heron Hills Golf Club in Macedon, located in the eastern suburbs of Rochester, as the three host clubs for this year’s new qualifying format for the RDGA Men’s District Championship John H. Ryan Jr. Memorial.
In previous years, the RDGA District Championship qualifier – open to all male amateur golfers who are members in good standing at RDGA member clubs – had been hosted over three consecutive days at the same course. This year, in an effort to provide a greater variety of choices for golfers – as well as more convenient locations throughout the greater Rochester area – three different clubs will be hosting one-day qualifiers for the RDGA District Championship.
At each qualifying site, RDGA District Championship competitors – who are not otherwise exempt from qualifying for the final field of the Championship – will play in an 18-hole, stroke play round, after which approximately one third of the starting field will advance to the RDGA District Championship.
Lake Shore will host the year’s first District Championship Qualifier on Saturday, June 13, followed by Blue Heron Hills on Wednesday, June 17 and Wild Wood on June 20. Competitors can choose which qualifying site they wish to play when they register; the entry fee is $75 for each one-day qualifier.
Registration for the RDGA District Championship Qualifiers opens on Thursday, January 15 – and golfers can sign up for the host course of their choice on the RDGA’s tournament information web page, found HERE.
Those players who qualify at each of the three sites will then join those players who are previously exempt from qualifying in the starting field for the 2015 RDGA District Championship, to be hosted by Midvale Country Club in Penfield on July 8 through 11.
