Zeman Survives Playoff With Weston to Win 2014 RDGA Senior Championship

First-round co-leader Zeman began Thursday’s final round four shots behind Curt Reimer of Webster Golf Club. Zeman, the 2013 RDGA Senior champ, Bob Weston of Blue Heron Hills Golf Club, the 2008 District Senior champion, and Kevin Webb of Clifton Springs all had a share of the lead after Round 1 on Tuesday, but lagged behind Reimer, who surged into the lead with a 76 on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Zeman put together the best round of the tournament, posting four bogeys, two birdies and 12 pars to finish with a 2-over-par 74 – coming in with a 235 total.

Weston, who opened with back-to-back 79s, finished the final round with a 77 to tie Zeman with a tournament total of 235 and force a playoff.

Reimer couldn’t keep up with Zeman and Weston, carding 9 bogeys, one double bogey and one birdie Thursday, finishing with an 82. His 239 total finished four shots off the lead pace and missed the playoff.

In the playoff matchup between the two past champions, Zeman emerged the winner over Weston and earned his second consecutive RDGA Senior Championship – one of the RDGA’s annual major championship events.

Open to all men, age 55 and over, who are members of an RDGA Member Club or who have their handicaps through an RDGA Member Club, the RDGA Senior Championships include competitions for Seniors (ages 55-59), Super Seniors (ages 60-64), Masters (ages 65-69) and Legends (ages 70+). At the conclusion of the Championship, the RDGA Senior Championship trophy was awarded to Zeman, as the overall champion, along with winners being recognized in each age category.

• Winning the RDGA Senior Division title for 2014 was Robert Brongo of Genesee Valley Golf Club, with scores of 80-81-81 for a 242 total.

• Winning the RDGA Super Senior Division title for 2014 was Zeman, with rounds of 79-82-74 for a 235 total.

• Winning the RDGA Masters Division title for 2014 was Jack Mahan of Oak Hill Country Club, with scores of 82-79-77 for a 238 total.

• Winning the RDGA Legends Division title for 2014 was Gary DiFlorio of Eagle Vale Golf Club, with scores of 82-90-85 for a 257 total.

As winners of the Seniors and Super Seniors divisions, Robert Brongo and Robert Zeman both earned exemptions into the 2015 RDGA Championship John H. Ryan Memorial.
